Dentures

Dentures

Dentures are prosthetic devices used to replace some or all of a patient’s missing teeth. At Lake Mountain Dental, most dentures have a gum-colored acrylic base that is the same color as a patient’s gums, with artificial teeth attached to this base. A full denture replaces all teeth along the upper or lower jaw whereas a partial denture replaces just a few missing teeth.

Types of Dentures

Different types of dentures are available, but the most common are full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures.

  • Full dentures are used when a patient has completely lost all of their teeth. The dentures are custom-made for the patient and closely resemble their natural teeth.

  • Partial dentures are used when a patient has one or more permanent teeth. The partial denture uses the remaining teeth for support.

  • Implant-supported dentures are used when a patient has one or more implants placed. The dentures use the implant posts for support.

The Benefits of Dentures

There are many benefits of dentures. With dentures, you can chew your food and smile with confidence. They can also help improve your speech and prevent your jawbone from deteriorating.

  • Dentures can help you chew your food. Without teeth, eating can become difficult. You may struggle with certain foods, and your digestion may become impaired. Luckily, with dentures, you can chew your food correctly.

  • Dentures can help you speak more clearly. Some denture wearers experience lisps and slurred words when their dentures don’t fit properly. But with dentures, you can communicate clearly and efficiently.

  • Dentures can help prevent your jawbone from deteriorating. Without teeth, your jawbone won’t have anything to support. Over time, your jawbone can deteriorate. This can affect your facial shape and make you look older.
