Dental Bridges

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a restoration that fills the gap left by a missing tooth. Lake Mountain Dental's bridge is custom-made from high-quality dental ceramic. It’s designed to match your natural smile and blend in seamlessly. A dental bridge is a replacement tooth or teeth supported by crowns on adjacent teeth. The crowns are attached using dental cement, and the bridge is anchored using crowns or dental implants.

Different Types of Bridges

There are two main types of bridges: traditional and cantilever. Traditional bridges work by placing the crown of the teeth on each side of the missing tooth. These crowns are attached by “wings” called abutments.

Cantilever bridges are another type of bridge. Instead of using crowns, cantilever bridges use cemented metal rods for support. Cantilever bridges are commonly used to restore small gaps between teeth.

Why Do I Need a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge holds an artificial tooth in place over the gap of a missing tooth. The bridge is cemented to teeth on either side of the gap. The main benefit of a dental bridge is that a missing tooth can be replaced. Replacing a missing tooth is essential for several reasons.

  • A missing tooth can make it harder for you to speak correctly.

  • A missing tooth can cause your jawbone to lose density which can result in problems with your facial structure.

  • When a tooth is missing, tooth decay and gum disease risk increase.

The Procedure for Dental Bridges

Dental bridges take a couple of visits to complete. During the first appointment, your dentist will prepare your supporting teeth, take an impression of your teeth, and fit you with a temporary bridge. The impression will then be sent to a dental lab, where your custom bridge will be crafted. Once the bridge is ready, you’ll return to your dentist to have it placed. You should be able to eat and speak normally right away after receiving your dental bridge, but your dentist may recommend that you eat a soft diet until the permanent bridge is placed.

The Advantages of a Dental Bridges

  • A dental bridge restores the appearance and function of the smile while preventing teeth from shifting into the gap left behind.

  • Dental bridges are custom designed and fitted for an ideal fit.

  • Dental bridges are also permanently bonded to the smile, unlike removable partial dentures, which can slip out of place.

  • Dental bridges restore confidence and self-esteem, helping patients smile more and laugh openly.
